2026 Ram 2500 Maintenance Schedule: Protecting Your Investment
A 2026 Ram 2500 is built to last 300,000 miles or more, but only if you treat it right. Heavy Duty trucks tolerate abuse, but they do not tolerate neglect.
At Champion CDJR Gulfport, we see two types of trucks in our service bay: those that need routine maintenance and those that need expensive repairs because maintenance was ignored.
The service needs of the 6.4L Hemi V8 and the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel are completely different. Here is your official cheat sheet.
Schedule A: 6.4L Hemi V8 (Gas)
The Hemi is low-maintenance and rugged. It uses standard oil and spark plugs, making it cheaper to service over the long haul.
- Oil Change: Every 8,000 miles (or when the Oil Life Monitor alerts you).
Champion Tip: If you tow heavy frequently, change it every 5,000 miles. Heat breaks down oil viscosity.
- Spark Plugs: Every 96,000 miles.
Note: The 6.4L uses 16 spark plugs (2 per cylinder).
- Transmission Fluid: Every 60,000 miles (if towing). The ZF 8-speed is tough, but fresh fluid keeps shift temperatures down.
Schedule B: 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel (Diesel)
The Cummins is an industrial engine. It requires specific filters and fluids to keep the fuel system clean and the emissions system happy. Ignoring these leads to expensive repairs.
The "Death Wobble" Myth vs. Reality
We get asked about this often. "Death Wobble" (violent shaking at highway speeds) was a problem on older solid-axle trucks with worn-out parts.
The 2026 Ram 2500 uses a high-strength steel frame and upgraded steering geometry to prevent this. However, you must inspect your front end components if you:
- Install a leveling kit (lifts change the geometry).
- Run oversized mud tires (extra weight wears out ball joints).
- Hit a massive pothole while towing.
Champion Recommendation: Ask for a "Front End & Steering Inspection" at every other oil change. We check the track bar and tie rods for free.
